Kevin Kopp

Kevin began Karting at age 9 racing pavement ovals in 4-cycle Briggs powered karts at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, Virginia.  A few years latter he was road racing Yamaha powered 2-cycle karts at Summit Point Motorsports Park.  By age 13 Kevin was racing karts up and down the east coast in the World Karting Association (WKA) Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series and at 14 won the WKA National Road Racing Championship in Junior Sprint Lite.  That same season he won both the Woodbridge Kart Club and Dart Kart Club Junior Sprint Lite and Heavy season championships and was selected Woodbridge Kart Club Junior Driver of the Year.

Kevin skipped his last year as a WKA junior driver in 2004 to race as a senior where he won his second WKA National Championship this time as a senior driver.  In 2005 Kevin continued WKA Road Racing in three different classes, while simultaneously competing in the WKA Manufacturers Cup sprint racing series and the highly competitive Stars of Karting sprint series.  When the WKA 2005 season ended at Road Atlanta in November Kevin had captured two more national championships.

Turning 17 in September 2005 Kevin took his first SCCA drivers School in October at Summit Point and began to build a Spec Miata over the winter.  However, his Karting career was not quite over.  A WKA World Karting Championships at Daytona during Kart Week had eluded him for four years.  That drought came to a fitting end December 2005 at the World Karting Championships on the Rolex 24 Hour course where he won three times, in three days, in three different classes, setting fastest lap in each race.

Kevin’s first race in car with seatbelts was in 2006 at MARRS 1in a Spec Miata he built and where he managed a respectable 6th place finish in the field of 42.  His first Spec Miata win came in July at the SCCA Freedom Double Regional at Mid-Ohio.  Kevin was the SCCA DC Region Rookie of the Year in 2006.

Kevin left for School in Orlando, Florida in early winter 2007 and missed most of the racing season.  During 2008 he commuted back and forth between Orlando and DC to run selected MARRS races in both SM and SSM.
