Kim Ratcliffe

Kim began racing with on-track driver education by Car Guys, Inc. in July 2001 at Virginia International Raceway driving the #03 Porsche 944. It rained for the majority of the two days she spent at this event providing her with an excellent opportunity to experience driving under adverse conditions. Each of her five instructors had a hard time believing that she had never been on track before.

In her second Car Guys event at Summit Point in November 2001, this time with perfect weather, Kim recorded a best lap time of 1:38 - moving within 8 seconds of Alex's best time in this car at this track. "She's going to be fast" said Alex, "I'm looking forward to her completing her race schools and getting her license."

Kim's first SCCA drivers school in March 2002 was grueling, but very good. A mechanical problem at Lime Rock for her required second school forced KRM to attend a third school at Pocono in order to complete Novice Permit requirements before the Inaugural 944 Cup race to be held the next day. For the 2002 season, Kim competed in the SCCA MARRS Labor Day Double races as well as the 944 Cup race series, finishing 7th in the standings and missing only one start.

Kim returned to the 944 Cup series in 2003, running with increasingly larger fields as that series continues to grow. Kim continued to battle it out on the track with rival and series organizer Dave Derecola improving her lap times and finishing in 10th place in the championship standings for the year. Kim again competed in the SCCA MARRS Labor Day Double races, raising money and awareness for Laps to Conquer MS and was a regular contributor to the SCCA DC Region club magazine the StraightPipe with her MARRS ITS race reports.

In 2004, Kim made the move to front wheel drive competing in the #04 Honda Civic si in the H5 class of the East Coast Honda Challenge positng consistent 2nd & 3rd place finishes and finishing 3rd in the championship from a partial season. Kim returned to the ECHC H5 class in 2005 - but with a heavy team race schedule she was again only to post a partial season that included her first ever race win at Carolina Motorsports Park. The win also marked the first class victory for a female in NASA's Honda Challenge.

In 2006, Kim started the season with two dissapointing results in the Honda. In what began as a diagnostic test drive, Kim switched to Payton Wilson's #1 Spec Miata and was instantly hooked. Kim competed in the #1 Spec Miata in NASA Mid-Atlantic's Spec Miata 2 and went on the win the championship title.

Kim Returned to driving in 2088 in the MARRS SSM series.

For 2009 Kim will return to full time driving in a new King RAT SSM Miata, competing in the MARRS championship.
